desk-pagesfurniture

Anna and I love to hunt. No, not the manly version of crouching in a tree stand on an early morning but the hunt for a “new to us” piece of furniture for our home. On Christmas day, Anna told me that my gift from her would be a desk to go in our den which got me pumped up. I knew that meant the hunt would soon ensue. Saturday morning came and we were off. This time we decided to start at Page Furniture in downtown Southern Pines and to my delight, we hit a homerun. Page’s had a vast array of pieces that cross all styles and looks. The desk we found was a perfect fit (size, price, style etc.) Page’s has affordable prices and they are even willing to negotiate on most items. The fun part is that even if you don’t see something you can’t live without today, you never know what may be waiting for you to discover it tomorrow.

It is always fun to come up with just the right gift for your loved ones. Anna and I had the best time shopping for cool local gifts to give our family & friends this past Christmas. There was one gift in particular that we wanted to hold onto because of its fun factor…

Going over my list this week (& checking it twice) I realized that with all the Christmas and New Year's celebrations ahead that I needed to go see Tad at Uncorked to stock up on a holiday selection of wine & champagne.  Located off Linden Road beside Elliotts in Pinehurst, Uncorked offers customers the opportunity to sample wines before you buy.  Too long of a "to do" list?  Uncorked even does home delivery within the Sandhills.  Here are some more facts sandhillsDig.com has learned about Uncorked:

  • Over 200 wines & 100 different beers to choose from
  • They can special order any wine
  • 90% of their wine & beer labels you won't find anywhere else in the Sandhills

Check out these upcoming events at Uncorked:

Last Minute Shoppers (Free tasting) - Saturday Dec. 19th - Noon to 4pm - All wines will be 10% off, 15% off all case purchases.  Santa says you may mix and match.  Call 910.295.3663 for the details.

Donna Lane & Pearly Girl is having a "Relocation Celebration Sale" Thursday, December 10th from 5-7 p.m. to show their excitement and appreciation for the growth of their business and to celebrate their beautiful new storefront location in the Belvedere Building on West Pennsylvannia Avenue in downtown Southern Pines.  The sale includes 40% Off Pearly Girl items (including jewelry) throughout the store plus wine and light hors d'oeuvres will be served.  See you there!

When it comes to decorating, I’ve been practicing what I call “holiday minimal” for years. Here’s how it works: If you’re going to do less, do something fabulous that can last through several seasons.

Last week, I went to Aldena Frye Floral Designs in downtown Aberdeen for a “November to March” table centerpiece. I took some blue porcelain balls I already had as the inspiration for the design and explained that I was looking for something “woodsy” for Thanksgiving but able to transition to the holidays and carry through the winter. Aldena wrote this down (along with my budget) and voila:

I’m especially pleased with the feathers and berries – both work well for winter and Thanksgiving. For Christmas, Aldena suggested nesting some sliver ball ornaments into the moss.

Now that my dining room is set for the seasons, its your turn. Take Aldena a picture of your room or even just an idea and you’ll end up with something fabulous too.

She’s even offering sandhillsDig.com readers 10% OFF through the holidays, so print this post and take it with you!

I’ve recently been digging Zooey’s (Rashida Jones) style in the film I Love You, Man. Her wardrobe is an effortless mix of cardigan/shirt combos. In particular, I noticed her vintage-looking tees and am forever grateful to Alison for discovering the locally designed tees available at SWANK in downtown Southern Pines. Birds, bikes and more…there are several designs and multiple colors and sizes to choose from for both men and women. I’ve decided to make the tee/cardigan style my go-to look for fall. So if you have any other leads on the best tees in town, send them my way.
