Sandhills Style: Holiday Centerpieces

With the holiday season in full swing, I decided to spruce up our dining room table with a festive centerpiece. I chose to use things from our yard so that I can replenish as needed and ultimately I was going for a simple, natural display to set the holiday tone. With some fresh greenery, flowers, beautiful red ribbon and a little imagination anyone can turn their table into something special.

I started with a few stems of fresh hydrangea from Botanicals. It is always inspiring just to walk in to Carol Dowd’s downtown shop and I was instantly buzzing with ideas. Potted amaryllis and paper whites are also great options. My helpers, Ed and Janie, gathered some lovely pine cones from the grounds at Weymouth and then we spray painted them in the back yard with Antique Gold spray paint from Michaels.

Next I cut some fresh nandina berries from the yard to add to the hydrangea arrangement and tied the vase with beautiful red ribbon from Gulley’s Christmas Cottage. They carry the best ribbons around – my mother comes from Asheville to get hers each season! And Susan is a master-bow-tier and wonderfully helpful! Finally I added cranberries from the Fresh Market to my glass hurricanes and tied a bow around the neck of my little twig ducks, found at Sparrows last year. This year they have twig quails-I might need a few more little creatures!

It is so nice to have all of the resources we need at our fingertips to help make our homes merry this time of year. And if you’re entertaining, One Eleven Main and Mockingbird have amazing tabletop ideas! I can’t wait to head out on black Friday and kick off the shopping season! Happy Holiday Decorating!!
