Rhett’s Signature Trout

Anna and I love cooking at home, usually trying a fun recipe she has found online or something we’ve seen on the Food Network.  As much as we love cooking, we have found much delight in scouring the Sandhills for that delicious “date night” dish.

We schedule date nights in advance so we have something on the calendar to look forward to.  This particular mid-week night, we wanted something fresh, healthy and local.

Rhett’s, in downtown Southern Pines, takes the word local seriously as all of their ingredients are fresh and local.  As soon as we opened up the menu, Anna saw my eyes light up and she knew exactly what I was going to order: cornmeal-coated pan-seared NC trout, served with a brown butter pecan sauce.  Add in sides (you get to choose your own) of fried whole okra, fresh tomato slices, a glass of wine and that’s a success story!

We had a wonderful experience; the service was excellent, the food superb and the Southern Pines setting was relaxing.

This blog may get you thinking about two things:  1)  Plan/Schedule a special date for you and your significant other.  2)  Choose a Sandhills restaurant like Rhett’s that will make that night a local treat.

This is an amazing dish, one of my favorites for sure. Thanks for making my mouth start watering at my desk this morning…I may need to visit for a date night this week sometime.
