Over lunch at Sweet Basil Cafe, my friend Jordan and I decided we’d like to do something for some kids we babysit. Walking in downtown Southern Pines and looking around in the stores, I am always inspired to do some sort of art project and walking past 9th of September was just the inspiration we needed…
Upon walking in, it was clear we had a big decision to make: what to paint. After finally narrowing it down to a piggy bank, we were still faced with several options: a baseball bank, a frog bank, and a wide array of pigs that came in several shapes and sizes. Finally we made the decision to paint two equally sized little pigs.
Next, we picked out the colors we wanted for each one, and then we were ready to begin.
After a lot of brainstorming, we decided to paint one of them pink, with coral and yellow polka-dots, and sponge paint the other with various shades of blue and green. Our brilliant ideas could largely be attributed to the cookies the owner brought out to us. That’s what I figure, anyways.
We painted and painted, adding some minute details such as puff paint faces, and the kids’ names, and then they were ready to be glazed and baked, as is often the fate of pigs.
Two days later, we returned and our little piggy banks were smooth and shiny, just as they should be! I took them home and now they are all ready to be wrapped and distributed. The boy pig turned out a little darker than expected but he still looks great!
