Last night, we decided on Ten-Ya in the Village of Pinehurst. Ten-Ya has a new menu so we took our time to see what would catch our eye. We started by sharing Edamame and for our meal, I went conservative with the authentic Hibachi Chicken and Anna picked out a roll from their new sushi menu which has a motto: "Never Try, Never Know." Our server recommended the Kabuto Roll which was delicious - spicy tuna, white tuna, cream cheese & caviar flash fried with spicy sauce.
Our favorite thing? Enjoying creative sushi rolls (like a meal you might find in Raleigh or D.C.), and then stepping out the front door into the quaint Village of Pinehurst - home.
Ten-Ya is running a sushi special for the month of November - Buy one, Get one half off. Enjoy any sushi roll at the regular price and get a second roll of equal or lesser value for half price.
FYI - Ten-Ya has another location in downtown Southern Pines

I had the whole thing planned out, Wes and I would go back to Italy this year to celebrate our engagement there 7 years ago. We’d fly to Rome, train to Florence, then the coast, Cinque Terre, rent a car…but I’ve been unable to find that perfectly priced pair of airline tickets and the value of the dollar isn’t helping much either…
In the meantime, I’m getting my Italian gelato fix here in Southern Pines at Henry's. When I walk in and see those colorful mounds of authentic Italian gelato, I’m transported back to my favorite Florentine gelato joint near the Palazzo Vecchio.
Word has it that the owner’s of Henry’s traveled to over 50 countries to bring a wide range of flavors and recipes here to the Sandhills. The best part about Henry’s is that although you can only fit one or two flavors in a cup, you can sample as many as you’d like.
My favorite flavor (this month) is pumpkin spice. What's yours? Tell sandhillsDig.com readers.

Soup season is here. Whether you are cold, sick, feeling a little down or just plain hungry, soups seem to do the trick. Anna is not feeling well today so I have been on a soup search. Here’s what I’ve found so far…
Hearty soup specials
The Villager Deli in Pinehurst serves up hot and hearty chili 365 days a year in addition to a different homemade soup everyday of the week:
• Monday - Cream of tomato with sherry
• Tuesday - Chicken gumbo
• Wednesday - Pot luck (Koley keeps you guessing)
• Thursday - Baked potato
• Friday - Clam chowder
• Saturday - Lobster bisque
Not your ordinary chicken soup
Mexican Chicken Soup - San Felipe in Aberdeen on 15-501 has a flavorful chicken soup made with rice, tomato, onion, avocado, cilantro & lime (pictured).

Here are a few of the things you can do right now...

As one that is happily married, going out on a date with your spouse is very special. There are many reasons why this is the case. Here are a few that come to mind. First, you have something on the calendar that both you and your significant other can look forward to and be excited about. Secondly, the Sandhills is a perfect place to go on a date. We have beautiful parks to picnic in and our restaurants are first class. Next, as was the case with us, we were able to get a reservation at an awesome Southern Pines bistro, Chef Warren's, and enjoy a remarkable meal (I had the Obscenely Large Pork Chop and Anna had the Steamed Prince Edward Island Mussels with Handcut Fries). Lastly, it gives you the opportunity to communicate, to share and to care. If you haven't done it lately, get up the courage and ask your spouse out on a date. You won't be disappointed.
