The 7th Annual St. Joseph of the Pines/Coalition Golf Classic is set to take place Monday, July 26, 2010 at National Golf Club in Pinehurst. The event is a fundraiser that benefits the Sandhills/Moore Coalition for Human Care located in Southern Pines. Individual player spots, four player teams and sponsorship opportunities are still available. Here's the dig:
Donald Ross is well known for his influence on golf in the Sandhills and around the world. But did you know about his famous "moonlight golf" match in 1906? After sharing a meal in Pinehurst, Ross and Jack Jolly, a guest golf pro from New York, challenged one another to 18 holes under the stars. Ross won the match with a score of 88 while using hickory-shafted clubs.
The buzz about the upcoming Vince Gill concert in Pinehurst has been fueling enthusiasm from local residents and fans throughout North Carolina. If you haven't already heard, Vince Gill and his band will perform a concert entitled "An Evening with Vince Gill" to benefit the The First Tee Sandhills at the Village Arboretum in the Village of Pinehurst, NC on Saturday May 29, 2010.

Wednesday, Dec. 23 The USGA announced Monday that Pinehurst will host 14 days of championship play in 2014, with back to back U.S. Open and U.S. Women's Open Championships. The legendary Pinehurst #2 course, designed by Donald Ross, will challenge the world's best golfers (including Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Paula Creamer and Lorena Ochoa) in successive weeks for the first time in golf history. Adding the US Women's Open Championship marks the 11th USGA championship played on course #2. Plus, Pinehurst Resort and Country Club is now the only site in America to host all five USGA majors.
