The Sly Fox

Yesterday, we lunched on chicken and manchego croquettes with roasted red pepper coulis and shepherd’s pie at what will soon be The Sly Fox in Southern Pines.  sandhillsDig.com was fortunate to be “in the way” as owner, Chef Mark Elliott, Sly Fox Executive Chef Dan Piotrowicz and General Manager Andy Heisinger tested out some of their latest pub fare twists on innocent bystanders (landscapers, construction workers, etc.) But no one complained. We were also able to get some answers to the questions everyone has been asking...

Where is this new restaurant located?

The Sly Fox is taking shape in a renovated and very interesting brick building (formerly an antique store, car dealership, you may be able to remember even further back…) on the corner of SW Broad St. and Morganton Road in Southern Pines.

What type of food will The Sly Fox serve up?

Gastropub - traditional pub food, but turned up a notch. We suspect that it is in this gourmet focus we’ll see traces of Elliotts on Linden DNA. The pub will have some of the same food (and an unmatched beer list) you’d expect to find in a pub, but reinvented.

When will The Sly Fox open its doors?

Estimate is early Summer 2010. The Sly Fox will be open for both lunch and dinner and will also offer dinner until 10pm…or later.

What will the restaurant atmosphere be like?

Creating a space with character is high on the list. Local landscape architect Mark Wesley Parson has been brought on board and he has designed an actual English garden with water features (in pubspeak: an outdoor beer garden).   The interior space will feature a unique upfit with cozy sitting areas, a large bar with 12 towers and a kitchen that even Gordon Ramsay would be jealous of.
